LETTER FROM THE EXECUTIVE

Hey Y’all!

Preparations for the 2026 summer season are well underway! How is it already June?! Summer staff are in the midst of their onboarding, and the 39 inches of snow that covered camp in March has melted. You read that correctly, over three feet of snow fell across the Cheboygan area over the course of two weeks. After this intense snowfall, we hired an excavator to plow Bug-Out Road, because a regular plow, simply, would not have cut it.

Now that AGQ is thawing, our camp leadership team is working hard to prepare camp to welcome our new and returning community to their home away from home, while completing a few final projects before the summer season. Including, hiring a crane to bring a stump grinder into the courtyard to create a flat surface for a new paver patio.

For over 100 years, AGQ has flourished because of our staff team who understand that creating lasting experiences and memories for kids is not just a job, but the best job.

Cheers to 101 years!

AGQ Love,

Murphy Hammer
Executive Director of Camp AGQ

KEEPING CAMP BEAUTIFUL

MAINTAINING 100 YEARS OF HISTORY AND INFRASTRUCTURE

Maintaining a camp that has stood for over a century is a unique challenge that blends respect for aging structures, working with the natural environment, and the need for ongoing renewal and repairs. Over the past year, significant improvements have been made to keep camp a safe, accessible and welcoming environment for generations to come.

The D-Hall bathroom underwent a thorough renovation, installing new flooring, walls, stalls, and toilets to enhance comfort and sanitation for all campers and staff. In the spirit of expanding lakeside opportunities, we invested in four sailboats, allowing more campers to experience independent sailing, building knowledge and confidence on the water.

Infrastructure projects were also prioritized: Bug-Out Road was regraded, redirecting runoff to improve roadway safety and prevent erosion. Meanwhile, the historic Woodshop building received much-needed maintenance and renovations, including upgrades to the entrance ramps and stairs, as well as reinforcement of the building’s overall structural integrity.

These efforts reflect our commitment to preserving AGQ’s atmosphere and legacy while ensuring it continues to serve the needs of current and future campers.
