Letters & Packages

Note: We sometimes get confused with Camp Algonquin in Hastings, MI. Please make sure to follow our mailing address guidelines for letters and packages to ensure that your camper receives their package.

MAIL

Everyone loves to get mail! Letters can be sent to your child addressed to:

Camper’s name (Cabin if known)
YMCA Camp Al-Gon-Quian
P.O. Box 4188, Burt Lake, MI 49717

TIPS

  • Please remember to keep your letters cheerful and supportive!
  • You can send a letter early for your camper to receive the first full day of Camp.
  • Campers are encouraged to write home during the session. Providing pre-addressed and stamped envelopes with stationery can be helpful.
  • Remember when sending mail that camp is in a rural area, and sending and recieving mail can take an extra time.
  • Do not worry if you do not receive mail—it means your child is active and happy.

CARE PACKAGES

Campers often look forward to receiving care packages.

UPS, USPS and FedEx all deliver daily to camp, but packages must be sent to AGQ’s street address:

Camper’s name (Cabin if known)
YMCA Camp Al-Gon-Quian
9928 M-68, Burt Lake, MI 49717

THINGS TO INCLUDE IN YOUR PACKAGE

  • Books
  • Crossword puzzles
  • Playing cards
  • Magazines
  • *Snacks in air-tight containers

We allow campers to have a reasonable amount of snack food, but only if it is stored in an airtight container. Boxes full of treats can be an invitation for mice, raccoons, skunks or chipmunks. Their sense of smell is much more sensitive than ours, and packages containing food are easy targets for hungry animals. Airtight containers keep animals and insects out of the food and away from our buildings. Camp Al-Gon-Quian will not provide storage containers or be responsible for lost or stolen food items or packages destroyed by animals.

*Out of an abundance of caution, we ask guardians refrain from sending snacks containing nuts to campers. Only include clearly labeled, nut-free snacks. Any prohibited items found during nut-free sessions, including homemade baked goods, will be confiscated and not returned.

NOTE: Please be mindful that care packages are often a source of cabin conflict. Keep packages modest in size and content. Encourage your child to share with his/her cabin-mates.
